Is this box blight?

Hi, I live in Fife, Scotland and have a hedge both sides of the house, about five meters apart - both hedges have developed discolouring and white marks on the leaves - could this be blight or due to the cold and frosty conditions?

Hi David, your plant looks to me like a cotoneaster - l know they can get fireblight, but tbh l am not sure that this is what it is. Hopefully someone may know more.

My bet would be that it's down to the weather.  Cotoneasters are tough plants, but many evergreens have really taken a battering this winter.  I'd expect the browned leaves to fall off eventually, and be replaced by fresh new ones.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • thanks all, looks to be good news. Will wait and see what happens over spring.
