Portuguese laurel

Just wondered if it is worth buying established root ball Portuguese laurel for an instant hedge or would it look better long term if I bought small?

If it was me, and it was a few years ago😀 I would buy 2’6” and cut off the top 6” on planting.
Can you get bare root ones?  I think they would be cheaper and plant well. Dig a nice big hole and put some compost in, plant them firmly then if you want, and I didn’t, you can put some bone meal around the edge, but not to closely, of each one.
    Plant at about 18” apart.
After they start to take off and shoot, you can keep just picking out the growing tips of the uprights and the side shoots, that will thicken them from the bottom.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
