Ranunculus aquatilis in bunches & Lythrum salicaria plugs

I have just received these ordered plants in the post.  The Ranunculus instructions are to put them into soil - I assume in a pond basket - has anyone used these plants and can I just throw them into the pond - they have weights on them. How successful were the Lythrum?

I grow lythrum salicaria in the boggy bit at the side of the pond, but they will grow in any damp soil.  The ranunculus I would put in either boggy soil or a basket stood in water.  They are not free floating water plants .

That's interesting fidgetbones - I had assumed that the ranunculus were oxygenators - free floating plants - especially as they have weights on each bunch - I will have to give a little more effort to their planting - I love chucking plants into the pond - liberating!
