I'd leave it alone if it were mine.
If you wanted to cut all those tall stems back, now is the time to do it.
Wear gloves are SOME people are sensitive to the sap which drips out.
    Devon.
  • Many thanks for that, Would it encourage more growth if I cut it back ?

All the young shoots at the base will grow  if the old stuff is cut back or not.
Some prefer to cut out the old and just leave the young stuff so it doesn't become a bit woody.
You garden, your plant, your choice.
Maybe I'm a lazy gardener , but I think it's fine as it is. I'd leave it.
    Devon.

Looking at photo and @Hostafan1 's answer l would say It's a type of euphorbia. There is an article on the Gardeners' World website with info on pruning them which may help.  :)

I wait until the tall stems finish their display then I cut them back, wearing gloves. Then the new stems grow up and become next year's tall stems.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Thank you busylizzie I will give it a try
