IVY

Before things start growing fast - how do I remove choking ivy from my mixed hedge - box - holly - hawthorn - beech - and more, even gooseberry.  approx 220+ meters - 1.2 meters high - about 0.5 meters wide.

Cut the ivy at the base I suppose! But with 220m of hedgerow I'd leave some for the birds to nest in ...

Try and find the main stem at the base and chop it off at the source. That should kill off all the growth above that point, but you may find that the aerial roots along the length of the stems have rooted themselves wherever they have touched the soil.

Ivy is a b****r to get rid of if it gets a foothold where you don't want it.

I realise that the previous thread you posted descended into nonsense but I think you will get the same answers as the same people will be answering.
Cut it out. There are no short cuts... no pun intended.
