Peeling bark tree identification

I pass a lovely small tree on the way to work and wondered if anyone could help identify it:

I'm pretty sure its a birch but not sure what specific type...

Yes, a birch ... there are some lovely varieties aren't there  ... have a look here and see if you can find a match
