Ameryllis with no stalk but many buds

What would cause my ameryllis to have buds just above the bulb top?

The bud appears first and you should soon see the stalk as it grows.

It has no stalk!  I don't know why.

The pic shows exactly what you mean. I didn't realise that the buds were so well developed. It would be interesting to see a pic once they open.

I think that something has happened to the bulb, possibly a sudden change of temperature perhaps, to trigger the flower to open without the stalk developing first ... ain't Nature amazing!  :o:D

It was a Wal-Mart left over. $1 I couldn't pass up! It had just a tiny green when I bought it. The leaves and the beginning of a bus came out. Just no stalk. There is the potential of another one on the backside of this one.  I will post a picture when it is fully open.

It has opened. Still not sure what is going to come out of the other side. It does look more like another bud than more leaves.
