crocuses and primroses

hi i bought crocuses and primroses yesterday still in flower (feb 23rd) can i plant straight into the garden now or do i need to wait to plant them ?? id like them to flower next year in the garden

  • They are both hardy so can be planted any time the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.  Normally I would say plant them out now but given that the forecast is for several days of freezing temperatures, I'd probably hold off until the ground is thawed.  Don't keep them indoors though as they won't appreciate the warm conditions at all.  Cool and plenty of light is what they need.  A cold greenhouse or coldframe would be ideal, otherwise put them by the side of a house wall.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
