Thick Grapefruit Skin

My Red grapefruit yielded its first fruit this year, but the skin is very thick and the fruit flavor was not that good. How can I fix this?

    HELLO,

I TAKE IT THAT YOU ARE NOT LIVING IN UK WHERE MOST OF US ON HERE ARE. WE ARE  CURRENTLY ENDURING A LONG AND DREARY WINTER WHICH JUST SEEMS TO GO ON FOR EVER.

EVEN WHEN THE SO-CALLED SUMMER DOES ARRIVE, HARDLY ANY OF US WILL BE GROWING CITRUS FRUITS, OTHER THAN AS A KIND OF GESTURE OF DEFIANCE, AND THOSE THAT WE DO GROW WILL PROBABLY BE IN A GLASSHOUSE.

EVEN FEWER OF US WOULD HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHY YOUR GRAPEFRUIT HAVE THICK SKINS.

FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH, YOU COULD TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. GOOD LUCK.

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
