    Do you mean Red Lucky?

They don't like alkaline soil so best to use an ericaceous compost.   They flower before they leaf up so, to avoid frost damage to the flowers, keep you magnolia in a sheltered site out of wind and in sun or partial shade.   Use rainwater rather than tap water to water it.

Soak the bare roots in a bucket of water for at least an hour to re-hydrate them before potting it up.

Feed it every spring and again after flowering finishes as the nutrients in compost only last 90 days or so and it will need extra nutrients to form the second flush of flowers in August as well as next spring's show.
