Stopping Wood Pigeons on bird feeder

Have been trying for ages to stop Wood Pigeons from getting on my hanging mesh feeder without hampering other birds. The Woodies would just sit on the feeder until everything was gone so other birds didn't get a look in!
I am using a wire hanging basket under the tray which nestles inside.Originally I had the basket on the top but nothing used the feeder.
Since I have had it like this no woodies have used it but all the other birds have including blackbirds, robin, sparrows, and starlings.
Seems to work for me!

Our woodies wait on the fences for the goldfinches to use the feeders, then they swoop down immediately they see them to hoover up any discarded crumbs

The woodies are still around and as mentioned do hoover up dropped seed which is fine with me!
It is this one:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GARDMAN-HANGING-FEEDER-SEED-TRAY-FOR-WILD-BIRDS-A01017/111691762366?epid=1009287884&hash=item1a01590abe:g:AaUAAOSwxH1UAc3~
Can't remember where I got the wire hanging basket. This one was just the right size for the clips on the feeder chains to attach to the basket.
You could probably make it work with just any sort of tray in a hanging basket.
How does the basket stop them? Surely the pigeons can still land in the tray?
I did this kind of the thing and my pigeons would sit in the tray....
I have had no pigeons on the tray since I started doing it this way.I think they can't perch easily on the basket rim and if they get into the tray they don't like the chains touching them.
It may depend on how big the tray/basket is,too big and they can get in the tray.
Anyway it works for me!
