Nest box positioning
What is the best position / placing for nest boxes please?
Is there a maximum height for them? Do they need to face in a particular direction?
We have a small garden that has many bird visitors on a daily basis. Last year we put out some sheeps wool in a peanut feeder and the Blue Tits used some of it but disappeared elsewhere.
Having developed a love of watching the birds in the garden we would cherish them nesting there but current boxes have stayed stubbornly empty!
Any advice gratefully received.

Who knows what goes on in their heads? I have a family of wrens in the outside vent of my bathroom fan. The middle "blade" got jammed up and in they went...to their fully South facing abode.
Having said that...this is Norn Iron, not the tropics.
I had some coal tits nesting in a wall last year and the chicks came to grief in the couple of days of scorching weather.
My nesting boxes sit unmolested!
