Mary370, if you prune back any of the branches now, it's just to re-shape and control its size. In order to minimise losing flowers, the bulk of the cutting back is usually done in early autumn time. This allows the plant enough time to grow back its branches. If you are concerned about losing flowers in summer, I would leave it for now, and wait till it's early autumn to do it.
