Seeds (Indian cooking)

imageHi to all

Does anyone know which variety of Mustard seeds I can grow for Indian cooking?

Also which variety of fenugreek seeds to grow for Indian cooking?

Where can I buy Trachyspermum ammi - Ajwain seeds from?

I wish to harvest the seeds for cooking.

Thanks for your time

Andrew

BUY THE SEEDS FROM AN INDIAN SUPERMARKET, POP THEM IN SOME COMPOST AND WAIT.image

Just bear in mind that seeds don't remain viable for ever, and if you buy from a grocery, they may have been in storage a long time.  So if they don't germinate, don't give up, use the rest of the pack for cooking and try again with another batch.

    TRUE.

I USED TO LIVE ROUND THE CORNER FROM THIS SHOP.

    https://www.asiandukan.co.uk/herbs-and-spices/whole-spices/fudco-brown-mustard-seeds-400g.html

AND THEIR SEEDS WERE THE FRESHEST I HAVE EVER FOUND.

THEY EVEN SOLD CHICKPEAS STILL IN THEIR PODS.

LOOKING AT THE PRICE OF 400G OF THEIR BLACK MUSTARD SEEDS, AND COMPARING THAT WITH THE PRICE (OF THE HALF A HANDFUL) OF AN AVERAGE PACKET OF HORTICULTURAL SEEDS, YOU MIGHT DECIDE THAT IT IS JUST CHEAPER TO BUY THEM HERE AND FORGET ALL THE COST OF COMPOST AND OTHER STUFF.image

  • I got my mustard seeds from Tesco. Sow them as green manure and they are viable every time:)
