Last year, I planted two cucumber plants. One I let grow horizontally and the other I grew upward in a tomato cage.
The horizontal plant grew like crazy with five long stems and hundreds of flowers. The upright plant also grew very well with four stems and hundreds of flowers. Both attracted bees each day.
The horizontal plant did not yield many cukes, but the ones that did grow were dark green from day one. The caged plant produced more cukes and very big ones, but many were not dark green, with some staying a light green/white color.
Any suggestions?
