Magnolia tree

Due to the resent heavy snow fall, a big branch has broken

from our magnolia tree. I have wrapped the open wound

with bubble wrap and cling film. Is there anything I can do

to save the branch? It’s makes me sad to see this. This particular branch gave up 4 beautiful flowers this year.

i would appreciate some advise. Thank you ????????

We'd need a photo showing the extent of the damage.

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • has it broken back to the trunk?

as that would be more of a problem than it breaking along the length of the branch - If that's the case you simply take a deep breath and remove it cleanly to a joint point on the branch.

if its broken to the trunk you need to remove it as cleanly as you can, trying not to damage it more than it already is.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. the branch broke clean off the trunk, which is why i wrapped the trunk in bubble wrap and cling film

is that ok, will the tree survive after this trauma?

Is there anything I can do so the branch (which is fill of beautiful leaves) survives?

It makes me so sadimage, poor thing!

  • as breaks go on the trunk that looks a fairly clean break.

i would take a sharp penknife and give the wound a slight trim to get rid of anywhere where water could get in and freeze, but remember its a wound so don't take to much off.

  • The wound on the trunk?

is there something I can do to save this branch in the photo?

Please forgive my ignorance . I appreciate your help

  • Nothing you can do to save the branch I'm afraid ... but from what you say the tree should be ok.

If you're not sure post a photo of the tree for us to have a look at image
