How do I prepare the soil for the correct nutrients to accept a bare root nectarine tree? I live in the foothills of the Sierras in Northern California.
this is a uk based forum, so our knowledge of the Sierra's is limited,
but nectaries in this country like decent soil and in your area lots of organic matter to hold as much water as possible in the summer,
I would dig the hole as much a 2 foot across and 2 foot deep and replace with a mixture of 50:50 topsoil and organic matter (compost, rotted manure etc.) make sure you stake the tree, as it will be wobbly for a good few years after planting.
