New Ornamental Grasses Area

Looking to find flowering plants that will give colour and contrast set in amongst grasses of various varieties. The grasses are between 0-4 mts and 1-5 mts tall. I envisage the blooms peeking around and through the fronds of grass. Colours ranging from subtle cream / yellow, to vibrant reds. Ideas and help most welcome.

Hi Pete, I have an ornamental grass bed, I have verbena bonariensis interspersed between them, similar height and lovely effect!

Add some Echinacea and Rudbeckia to WW's suggestion and you would have a beautiful border.

Maybe some Salvia Amistad as well.

Knautia Macedonica and Cephalaria Gigantea are naturally great companions to grassy borders. Add to that, Sanguisorba Officinalis if your soil is quite moist, and Anthemis Tinctoria E.C Buxton in small thin drifts rather than blocks, they should go well with all the colour schemes.

  • Thank you Guys, beginning to see the hoped for effect more clearly. I'm rebuilding the garden and this is my first venture with grasses. I cant wait for Spring to arrive.
