New lawn

My old lawn is very uneven and full of weeds. I have been given some Rosate weedkiller and told that if i spray the old lawn with it I can re lay turf on top of it after spraying. I have been told that there are different strenght ratios of weedkiller to water. Canm anyone help

No no no. You have an uneven lawn. This will make it worse. You can either apply a selective weedkiller in spring and then tipdress 2-3 times during the year to reduce the hollows, or spray the lawn with glyphosate, skim off the dead turf 2-4 weeks later, hire a rotovator and thoroughly dig over the whole lawn, adding sharp sand ideally, and lay the new lawn on this. Again, in spring.
