Olearia Tweedledum shrubs not growing

Hi there,

I planted six Olearia Tweedledum shrubs at the front border of my front garden, the label said they grow to 1.5 x 1.5m , however they haven’t grown at all since I planted them in the summer.

how long owns it normally take for this type of bush to grow? They have ample sunlight and water.

many thanks

What is around them? I.e. are they having to compete with grass or other plants that are close by? (A picture might help).

When they say they grow to such and such, they mean the overal size, not just in one year.

Plants take a long while for their roots to establish. Sometimes the label will say 1.5mts in ten years.

How do you expect shrubs planted as recently as this summer to grow before next year? Be patient.image

  • They need time to get their roots established first in order to support the top growth they will then start to make. And as most plants don't make mmuch growth after mid July your plants will still be concentrating on root growth in spring 2018.

As has been said, keep root area clear of grass, weeds etc. feed with Fish Blood & Bone in the spring. Water each plant well at least twice a week from April to September, March if spring is dry, and mulch well with organic matter. They should be getting away well within two or three years.
