I've always used Sony MP3 players in the past, but my new car has a dock in it compatible with the iPod so it made sense to get one to extend the range of music in the car. Well it made sense until I bought it and tried to use the software to download CDs, create playlists etc. For a technology company, Apple make some carp software!
Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only numpty (soz hosta). My ipod is all bonkers and the screen has gone white. I desperately want to copy my stuff off it before it dies altogether and don't know how to even start!!!
I promise you it has nothing to do with being stupid, technophobe or numptie. I worked in IT for most of my life and I struggled with the ITunes software too.
You could try & get a new battery for your ipod. I have an ancient iPod mini which I got revived by taking to an independent Apple repair shop. I agree with others Apple are crafty about trying to force you to buy new stuff all the time one of their later things apparently is that when you download & pay for something off iTunes you are only "renting" it for your lifetime or the lifetime of the device. You do not own the copy!

Oh no, it's not just you. I will do *anything* to avoid using it.
ditto. It's fine if you're buying music from them but they're not keen if you've got music elsewhere, even if it's from your own CDs.
Thanks for the info, one and all.

At 1am this morning I was looking at stuff on you tube about how to do it. It's all a bit of a faff, but it seems it can be done.
Before you go in, make sure you tie a piece of string to something so OH can retrieve you if you get lost. And take a canary!
My biggest fear is that I'm so stupid, I'll wipe mine clean in the process and lose everything
