I have just purchased a property and in the garden a bush has yellow apple like fruit can anyone tell me what this is and any background the bush is approximately 4 foot in height . Is this fruit Edible what kind of fruit is it etc.

Chaenomeles sp...commonly called Japanese quince.
Fruits are edible in jams/wine etc.

That looks like Chaenomeles Speciosa. The ornamental quince shrub. Yes, they are edible but best used in cooking and making jellies.
I am so envious ......... they're wonderful chopped up and cooked in and around a pot-roasting pheasant
