I don’t know if you’re still looking for ideas, but I bought a Syringa Boomerang Pink Perfume this autumn which only grows to 1.5m max. I’ve planted it in a border, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be quite happy in large pot.
I chose this one for its repeat flowering throughout the spring-autumn and I wanted a dwarf one so it was easier for me to manage without ladders (our last home had a lilac that was about 15’ tall!)
