Lawn damage outbreak !!!

We seem to have an outbreak of something digging up our front lawns. Although it does seem to only be going in the gardens with a lot of moss . It was mentioned that the birds are digging the moss up for an infestation of beetles. It is so bad that one of my neighbours has had his lawn taken up completely . First I found it funny but now it's totally digging up our lawns. My question is - Do you think it will stop with the frost? If not any advice.

Badgers, they will soon become less active with the cold weather but do not hibernate.
Oh wow ! I haven't seen anything like it . Thanks
There was something on a TV programme recently about a golf course having the lawns dug up every night.....if you google it perhaps you would be able to find the programme. It was badgers for them. Apparently grubs living just under the surface. Such a shame for your garden ☹️
do you have wild boar in your area? as that might be the cause as well
Yes there could be Chafer grubs under the grass the wildlife is looking for. You need a bird watching camera that is motion triggered to see what your night time visitors are!
Would getting rid of the moss or the chafer grubs help? They do nematodes for chafer grubs, but you are then damaging the food chain for birds etc. No easy solutions.
'You must have some bread with it me duck!'
Lovely thank you I'll have a look ?
Ha ha I do hope not !
It's not a joke. They have become a real menace in the towns and villages of the Forest of Dean since they were introduced some years ago. What area are you in?
Definitely could be wild boar damage - https://www.britishwildboar.org.uk/index.htm?urban.html
Could also be badgers - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2805851/Forget-moles-meet-new-threat-lawn-Indian-summer-led-surge-badgers-digging-gardens-search-favourite-food-juicy-worms-stop-ruining-lawn.html
Best to google for info on how to deal with whichever one it is using legal preventive measures.
