Dianthus seed

I have just been given some dianthus seed and I was wondering whether I could sow the seed now or should I wait till spring?

I would be most grateful for your advice.

Keep the seed in a paper envelope in the Salad compartment of the fridge (not the freezer). They are the fastest germinating seeds I have ever grown. Overnight from fridge on filter paper in Petri dishes. Amazing.

Thnk you, Berghill, I will.  Good to know they're enthusiastic germinators!

  • Yes, I would follow that advice Philippa - as you sent me some last autumn, which I sowed in October, and they germinated very quickly with no problems.  I did overwinter the seedlings successfully but in hindsight I too would have sown them in the Spring.
