Newbie

I have just received aquilegia plugs, they are very small, should I put these straight into the garden, or do I need to pot them up and keep them indoors until spring. I am new to gardening bur trying my best.

Hello Flower of the forest and welcome image

I would put these into a small pot each and keep them somewhere cool but sheltered for the winter - a cold frame would be ideal - they shouldn't need much watering, they only need to be damp not  wet.

Please feel free to come back and ask more questions if there's something you're not clear about image

  • Thanks dovefromabove I will pot them up tomorrow, there are lots of cold frames to choose from, wood, aluminum  and plastic, should I buy any particular one.

It depends entirely on how much you wish or can afford to pay.

You can even construct a temporary one from bricks or blocks and an old window. There are videos and instructions on the internet.

Dont be alarmed if your little aquilegias do nothing over the winter ... They'll get growing in the spring.
