Sulphur Chips for maple trees

I was wondering if someone could help me, I watched a recent Gardner’s world in which they talked about tree care.

At one point they talked about putting sulphur chips on the ground in March / April to produce strong autumn colours come October.

I have neutral soil and have a young (4 meter) October glory maple that I want to get the most out of. Can anyone offer any advice on what sulphur chips to use and how much?

Obvisouly I don’t want to damage the tree of near by hedge.

Regards

chris

I would just top dress with a decent layer of ericaceous compost if your soil is neutral,

sulphur chips are only needed if your soil is alkaline and really needs a hand to get acid.
