Hello, I have a dwarf lilac and I noticed that the leaves have holes in them. Does anyone know how I can treat this? I really like the plant ad don't want to see it dead. Pls help. ????
do the holes start at the edge and work in? or are they in the centre not touching the sides of the leaf? are they holes not because they started at dead brown patches? or did they appear overnight?
They are dotted all over the leaved but not on the edges. Must have been happening for a while. Only just noticed yesterday. I'm suspecting it to be caused by a caterpillar of sorts but can't find any on the tree
In my experience caterpillars usually start their munching at the edges.
There are some conditions that cause brown or black spots on the leaves which then dry out and turn into holes in the leaf, giving a 'shot hole' appearance.
I wouldn't worry too much at this time of year as the leaves will be falling very soon anyway. Good garden hygiene helps guard against the recurrence of such problems so rake up the fallen leaves below the shrub and burn or bag and bin rather than compost them.

To upload photos start with the camera icon. If they don't upload reducing the size of the photo usually works
