Help with Herbs

Hi

I don't seem to have much luck growing herbs from seed (with the exception of Basil) and waned to grow some over the winter in my conservatory ...last time I tried this the coriander started to grow and then just stopped and the parsley started and then went very leggy and then stopped altogether!! I've just tried buying supermarket plants bt , as I write, ...its not looking promising. 

I wonder if I could buy plugs from a reputable supplier which might give me a good start? I know this might sound a bit "basic" but I am a newbie to herb growing
