Helenium 'Morheim Beauty' is a classic ! Not knowing what size your plants are ; i.e. if the clump is about a foot across , there is potential to quadruple the number of plants !

Divide now , it doesn't really matter as long as you plant them in good compost and remember to not let them dry out even in the winter . I always think this gives them a 'headstart' in the spring .

( Well , I've found so anyway)!!image Others on the forum may have conflicting opinions , but it's entirely up to you really .

I wouldn't divide Helenium's in autumn I would wait until the spring when new growth start appearing, small clumps have tendency to fail on autumn divisions. If they are in pot they probably not that big ? A large clump like Paul said can get quite large and would fair better on division. Helenium are one of the few plant I don't divide at all in autumn, MBeauty probably my favourite variety as well.

Thought maybe late-summer warmth would encourage root growth ; who knows the kind of winter we may see ? Lets hope it's not a repeat of 09/10 !!!image

The winters have been relatively warm here ( North west ) the past 3 years, but had hard frosts in spring which knocks everything back. Had a shocking Summer this year, worst in number of days its rained image and the wind always flattens the helenium sahin early even with supports.

  • I have two pots so may experiment and divide one now and one in spring! Im going to put them in pots anyway until next year so we shall see! Thanks for your help
