how to kill ivy growing on the side of our house

Hi there,

I have used resolve weed killer on ivy that's about 2 years old on our new house. I can't easily get to the trunk of the weed as there is a greenhouse and glass panes in the way. I was hoping for a super strong and specialised ivy killer that will do the job for me instead.

Try to get into the stems as low as you can and cut through them either with a saw or a pair of secateurs. The top growth will die off and you can them easily pull it off the wall. Repeated spraying of weedkiller on the bottom bit as long as it still has greenery on it will eventually kill it. Not much point in trying more weedkiller at this time of the year, best to wait until it starts to grow again in the spring.

Ruthhurren, Get your garden spade place it flat on the wall and then push between the ivy and the wall this easily lifts it off the wall then cut off as much as you can reach, I keep my ivy at manageable height this way. I took it off one side of the house by cutting out about a foot of the main stem then let it die on the wall, the spade did the rest and I rolled it up taking it to the tip. Keep soaking the base with weed killer when you see any new growth it worked for me.

  • Take out a pane of glass from the greenhouse and cut the stem from inside the greenhouse?
