ID needed please

Hi folks just been given this nut, about 1inch or 25mm long,dont know any other details other than they picked it up from a walk this morning,image

    Thanks bob,i thought it looked like a very long acorn,it has a kernel inside that i can hear when i shake it,but the person who gave it to me,would have known an oak tree,so i dont think it is.

    Glad you like the shoe pot-man,the lesson being don't take pjcs on a glass table without looking what is under it first.

    It could be the acorn of the evergreen Holm oak, Quercus ilex.

    Hi Asarum,Think you could be right quercus ilex,shape of acorn sounds about right,leaves totally different to normal oak so my friend would not have recognized them as acorns,I ,intend to walk and have  a look  at the tree in the next few days to confirm your id
