is it possible to store my red abyssinian banana plant in my kitchen or living room in its current glory as opposed to cutting it down to the trunk and wrapping in the greenhouse for winter?
It's certainly possible , but in a heated indoor room the plant will carry on growing , albeit with much reduced light levels . This will lead to etiolated (weakened) growth , so you'll probably have to cut the foliage off anyway in the spring !
A better method is to store fairly cool and marginally damp through the winter ; maybe even dry after cutting off all the leaves . They soon regenerate when warmer days arrive !
