This Chilli plant was given to us by a friend but we have no idea what it is. We want to try it out but don't know when it is ready to pick or how hot it is supposed to be.
Can anyone help identify it?

No idea but they all will produce more fruit if you pick the ones that ripen, so I'd take that red one off and try it
The leaves look a bit yellow - it maybe needs some food? It may just be the light

@scroggin. I agree, but I have been assured it is a chilli. It is smaller than a pepper - probably about 3 inches high (excluding stalk), The plant itself is roughly 20 inches from soil to tip

Eat the one you have if its very hot label the plan very hot chillies, if its mild, well I think you can see where I am going with this
