Jacaranda Tree
in Plants
Hi, I am an inexperienced gardener starting to figure out what I like and experimenting with a few things. This year I brought back seeds from the Jacaranda tree in Malaga and planted them, not hoping for much. but to my surprise they all took and I now have quite a few wee Jacaranda trees. I am located in North Ireland were obivously the temperature doesnt match Malaga! So are the doomed this Autmun/ Winter. I dont have a green house yet, but we do have a sun room. Is it worth trying to keep one? will it grow indoors, will it flower indoors, Or would it survive outside covered in the winter or something like that. Any advice appreciated. many thanks,

Jacaranda....A fabulous tree for hot counties.

Sadly it will never survive a British winter outside and you will never get it large enough or get enough sun/heat to ripen the wood to get flowers.
At best you can keep it going indoors until you have no more room for it. or it dies.

I grew several of these from seed a few years ago. They reached 4’ tall and I brought them into the conservatory. However the plant has a very offputing odour like dry pee so they had to go!!!
I saw these trees in Alicante and thought how beautiful but my friend said it would not survive British winters I expect if it did we would see many specimens in our gardens and avenues.Perhaps donate to someone in the Scilly Isles!
