Something is taking over my lawn

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me identify what is taking over my lawn.  It started to appear about 2 months ago and has now spread right through the whole front lawn.  I have used a general all purpose lawn weedkiller which had absolutely no effect on it at all.  It has small, heart shaped leaves slightly larger than the size of a finger nail as you can see in the photo and each clump has about 10-15 leaves.  The clumps are rampant and it is now beginning to spread to my back lawn as well.  Any help in identifying and eradicating this would be very much appreciated.

Looks like Wild Violets, a real B to get rid of, I get it in flower borders, it eventually chokes everything, the roots go deep and snap off when you try to dig it up.

You could try dabbing Glyphosate on with a paintbrush so as not to damage your lawn.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • or you can just leave them and get pretty flowers in your lawn in spring.

depends how 'pristine' you want your lawn.
