Ivy growing indoors. Help needed!

We have ivy growing from from a gap between the window and wall of out house on the inside. There is no ivy on the outside however the neighbours are fond of it and have it growing nearby. We can't get to the root and need to kill it to prevent it causing damage. How do I kill ivy without access to its roots!?!

Thanks, will give that a try. My husband plans to have a word with them!
I do wonder about where the root is because if you look at the house from the outside theres no ivy anywhere near the window. A mystery!
