Acers in large pots

I have 2 large Acers in Pots I bought some 4 years ago. Decided to move them but they have both grown out of the hole in the bottom and the roots have gone into the ground. 2 of us can't move, so strong. is it ok to cut the roots to enable us to move?

Yes.
Root pruning is quite acceptable in Acers.
for the fag ends of the aristocracy.
