Inspiration for bare bank

I have a bare area of bank which I am in the process of removing grass and weeds from and want to fill with plants.

I have a big problem with deer so I am limited by the plants I can plant.

The area is roughly 4m by 4m.

I have attached some pictures which also have a potted Bergenia and Calluna that I am probably going to plant.

There is already a small buddleja (top left), rosemary ( top right) a few small lavenders (Bottom right). The tomato is being uprooted shortly.

I'm certainly thinking of Vinca minor.

The bank is more or less south facing so has full sun and the soil is quite sandy.

Any help/ ideas much appreciated!

  • I'm wondering about Cytisus scoparius, aka Scotch Broom ... I'm pretty sure deer tend to leave it alone.  It comes in some orangey red colours as well as the more usual yellow.

  • Yeah that looks pretty nice, I haven't seen that before.
