Holes in my lawn

For the past weeks now there have been several holes appearing on my lawn, surrounded by dead grass - I have seen two magpies regularly out there but never caught in the act. It makes the lawn appear unsightly after all my hard work.

Could the magpies be the cause, and, if so, how do I prevent it?

Sounds like you have leather jacks in the lawn, the magpies are probably trying to eat them.

You can buy nematodes for leather jacks.

What about squirrels burying nuts in the lawn? They are my biggest pain here image

  • Interesting, but haven't seen squirrels hereabouts.

    thank you though Mark

  • I have watched the squirrels digging up the grass to get the nuts they have buried in my garden. I then go out and try to cover it back up like a divet on a golf course!!
