FRuit trees in pots

I grow a number of fruit trees in pots on the whole they are producing good crops but Cherry trees don't seem to set fruit properly. The fruit is there but doesn't swell and they eventually drop off any suggestions on cause aand how to sort it

It sounds like you have a pollination problem, or not enough pollinators.

  • yes I think the same but have pots in middle of area for pollinating insects and have multiple cherry trees and neighbours have even more cherry trees

  • In my experience, cherries are very susceptible to late frosts or even just a bit of bad weather at flowering time, even if you hand-pollinate them as I have done for the last 3-4 years.  You could try moving the pots to your sunniest and most sheltered area during the flowering period which may help.  Once the petals drop you can move them back to their normal site.  Also give them a weekly feed of tomato food as flowering commences, just in case they are not getting enough nutrients.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
