Ranunculus didn't formed bulbs

I have been growing Ranunculus since long, I just bought 5 from market and collecting their tubers (bulbs) after bloom period is over. Last year I had 50 Ranunculus but after the bloom period when the foliage dried out, I dig them up and found that none of them have formed tubers (bulbs).
What could be the reason for non formation of bulbs?
