doing this is much better than just googling and wringing down the first thing we find as it would most likely be wrong, I will however rewrite my intro explaining this a bit more thanks
Why don't you go to nurseries and garden centres with a pad and pencil, (does any student know what they are these days) you will find some nice people to talk too all willing to help.

You say you are " a design student". What are you working on?, what information do you need to help with this project?
People are happy to help, but , forgive me, you really need to try to engage with the audience .
