Salvia, Ballet Series

Hello all,

I purchased some Salvia Ballet Series plugs earlier this year, they have grown nicely (though not flowered!).  I was wondering if they anyone knows if they are hardy enough to leave out over winter or shlould I pop them into pots and bring into my unheated greenhouse for the winter?

Many thanks!

If they have grown to good size from spring time, it should be fine to leave in. However, if you are concerned, you can dig them up and keep them inside an unheated greenhouse. If they have not flowered, perhaps the conditions are not very suitable. I know a few people that do keep the pots close to a warm wall and never leave in the ground. As long as the soil is not heavy, damp and shady, it should be fine to leave in as well.

  • Thank you Borderline,  we do have clay soil but I've worked a lot of organic matter into it and they're in a fairly sunny postition - I  might leave half in the ground and pop half in pots as little experiment image
