Is this plant Japanese Knotweed?

imageimageimageimage

Can someone help please?

we have had this shrub since we moved in 2 years ago.

last year it was just a stick about a foot high. I put in some new plants and cut it down to the ground and forgot about it. I let it grow up this year curious of what it is. It hasn't flowered, just foliage so far.

It's leaves are quite thin and floppy and grey and velvety underneath. It's stems are turning reddish and are rigid, strong and upright.

I'm heard it maybe a shrub honey suckle but my sister said it looks like Japanese Knotweed!!!

Can anyone shed any light on this mystery plant please? ????

  • To the best of my knowledge the stems on JK have kinks in them at the leaf nodes but someone who knows better will be along and hopefully they will reassure you.

  • Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought too. There are definitely no stem kinks. My sister has got me very concerned though ?

That was my first thought too - goat willow. I can't remember it's proper name - but nut(cutlet)  will know image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Leaf shape, arrangement and the colour of the newest leaves.Have a look at Salix caprea.

It's a tree or shrub, woody, not herbaceous like JKW
