I have two lots of helenium moerhiem beauty and one of mardi gras and currently still in pots. I wish to try and divide them to try and get more for my money! Whats the best way to propagate them? Im a bit reluctant to just slice through the roots as i cant imagine them being as tough as a hardy geranium

I do just that, slice through the clump and replant, but the main thing to note is that l do this in Spring, not this time of year.
Brilliant ill do that then! How many sections do you normally get out of a clump?
Well, it depends on the size of the original, but I don't make them too small. As long as each section has a good root system, that's what I aim for.
