Hi I have a young apple tree that I planted in the spring and has now lost all of its leaves and doesn't look like there are any new buds what do I do ? Oh and the garden is like clay

IF YOU SCRATCH THE BARK WITH YOUR THUMB NAIL DOES THE WOOD UNDERNEATH THE BARK LOOK DEAD OR IS IT STILL SOFT AND SUPPLE?
