Mushroom Windowsill Kit
in Fruit & veg
just received a email to say Mushroom Windowsill Kits on offer at 3 for 2.
Iv never done mushrooms before and don't know how many I would expect to get from a windowsill kit and if it's worth the price?
has anyone used these before?

Did you see my recent post "Home grown mushrooms"? I suppose you might get a pound or three of mushrooms on a windowsill over a few weeks. And it would be fun, that is if they grow!
Yes I did see it after I posted this.
i would like to give it a go though it seems expensive at £20 plus £5 for delivery for 3 kits.
That does seem a lot of money. You might do better to spend it on the best mushrooms in the supermarket.
If you do try the kits, I hope you'll let us all know how you get on.

Given that fungi do not require any light at all, I'm slightly mystified as to where the 'windowsill' bit comes in? Warmth, OK. Very little cultural or background information on that link.
Growing edible mushrooms is an interesting and potentailly rewarding challenge for a gardener but, 'Value for money".. hmm.
I was going so say the "windowsil" bit seemed odd, but Bob beat me to it
. I've never tried growing mushrooms, but I thought they're normally grown in the dark too. A cellar might be a better growing spot.
When I still lived at my parents' I sent for a mushroom kit. (Didn't know what to be at!!!). It arrived as a polystyrene box full of mushroom compost pre-spored (?) complete with lid (for the darkness!). I kept it in the downstairs loo and grew a grand total of three mushrooms.
Think I will give this kit a miss. I'm sue I saw monty growing them I bin bags a year or so ago. Might find a cheaper alternative
