Does anyone grow this beautifully scented plant?  The scent reminds me of something and I can't pin it down and it's frustrating me no end!!!!!!!

Hi Angie _ I grow a couple of the dark Acteas. I think one is Brunette.

Unfortunately - I can't remember what it smells like, but I also don't have a very good sense of smell, so that's not very helpful image

I know some people hate the smell of them - I wonder if it might be the hawthorn/cat pee thing?

Mine aren't flowering yet - is that a current pic? Lovely aren't they?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Like you Angie, I can't pin down the scent but I love it.

  • Hi all,

I've got 3 of these in a clump together .... just been out for a sniff .... but the sun is no longer in the garden and it's quite cool ....  so the smell is faint.

Will have another sniff in the sun tomorrow and see if I can recognise it.

Fairygirl, I'm generally not that great with scent either but this one I can detect.  No it's not the cat pee thing.  I have a Salvia that smells of that!  It's definetly a nice scent.

Me too Joyce21 - I've been getting wiffs of it all day and still can't quite put my finger on it.

Bee witched - I hope you've better weather today and can finally nail it for us.

Silver Surfer - yes, brunette is very similar.

  • Hi All,

We have had lovely weather .today .... so I went out to have a sniff.

Not easy as we have our beehives in the garden and a number of bees were working on the flower spikes .... they were a bit miffed at having to share image

It is a nice smell  - not a cat pee vibe going on - but the only thing that it was faintly similar to is almond essence.

    Best I can do.
