Apple & Pear tasting days

Hello,

I'm planning to put a small collection of espaliered (or possibly belgian fence-style) apple and pear trees in my garden, but want to find somewhere I can taste different varieties first. Does anyone have any recommendations of the best event to go to? There seem to be so many apple events I don't know where to start!

Also, I've seen lots of apple tasting days around before, but does anyone know of pear tasting events? And I remember in previous years advertising for apple days saying lots about having heritage varieties to try - will I be able to buy these? I don't want to find that I can't actually get any of the varieties I try! I live near the Cambridgeshire / Norfolk / Suffolk border, but would happily travel for a few hours and make a weekend of it.
